Recent Action Points
The park remains in most ways in very good condition thanks to the routine work of Amey teams, including the bin emptying service and bowling green team
Friends’ volunteers have continued to look after the aviary and birds despite the Covid-19 situation. We have also used exercise time, respecting social distancing, to undertake gardening and such.
Plants and seeds have been planted, ivy has been stripped from the wall of the toilet/mess building. The specimen shrubs in front of that wall have been clipped.
Ornamental garden is in a good condition
Acer bed is good – much improved. The removal of pedunculated serge from here and elsewhere has been a big effort but really worthwhile
Trim Trail – is in good order and being well used
Bowling Green: open and being used with a disciplined code.
Dawn’s Bank and flower bed: are good
Oldfield Road play area: is formally out of bounds but is used as before – there is no fencing and there is no practical way of stopping people. Notices were pinned up but are long gone. The matter of repair or replacement of the hanging cradle and other apparatus is still being pursued.
Four new trees – are doing well. The tree stock is now almost complete. Additional donations are being offered – they will be gladly accepted within the plan which Dave R and Rob Reid have
Floods at the bottom of the park: an intrinsic and historic problem – brought to the fore by heavy storms these recent days.
Tennis courts and MUGA are open and being well used
Hartley Road gateway: Finances agreed, Stonemasons commissioned, awaiting comment from the conservation unit. We noted recent reports of ‘Travellers’ in the town. We will be vigilant and hope to avoid another intrusion
Field of Hope/ancient meadow areas: The first cuttings will need to be taken away – The areas can then be cut every two weeks through the summer as per other grassed areas.
Paths: Paths be swept. FoJLP have done some edging off – There is more to do
Planter: good condition. No problem
Aviary: generally all well.
Finance: Matters are ticking over in a satisfactory way
Hartley Road Gateway: we and Trafford MBC await comment from the Conservation Unit. We have begun discussions about a celebration when the work has been completed
Membership: we have 13 new annual members and 4 new life members. There are 123 life members and 124 listed as annual members – this is renewal time – so far 66 people have renewed – This is early days and we look forward to receiving all 58 remaining renewals
Newsletter: The Summer Newsletter is with us. It is being well received and distribution is progressing. An electronic version has been circulated to all members and will be posted to the website
Fund raising: Submitted a grant request to Trafford Neighbourhood Fund. This will be used to buy a container for the yard if we are successful
E bay: items being prepared for sale
Health walks: still suspended
Bowling: a most encouraging increase in use of the green – people have joined FoJLP and its bowling section. There is strict discipline of social distancing, hygiene and registering attendance
Tennis: courts being well used from early morning, through to almost dark. Again people are adhering to rules
Neighbourhood watch: no formal communications from police. Reports of attempted scams via telephone and internet – People are alerted
Facebook, Twitter, Website: all busy and useful
